On September 7 2008, the Northeast Sportbike Association (NESBA) held a track day at Iowa Speedway (www.iowaspeedway.com) in Newton Iowa. Al took a few photos and spoke with some of the riders.
My wife is a tailor, and a couple of her customers had her making adjustments to their leathers for track days. We were taking business cards around to bike shops, and happened to hear about the track days that weekend, so I went out to take some pictures and speak with some of the riders and organizers.
The guy at the gate suggested finding the track photographer, so I parked and looked around for someone in charge. I found Carol Larson and by coincidence the track photographer was with her. The photographer was very nice and gave me hints for a couple locations.
I was impressed by the focus on safety, and helping the riders learn to improve their riding skills. The chase riders would show the way, observe the other riders and give hints. They would also place riders in compatible groups based on skill level. I suggest reading the descriptions at the (NESBA) web site.
I used to take action motorcycle photos as a hobby, so took a few to share. My cameras are not exactly pro-quality and I am getting used to setting the digital for sports photos so the pictures are not as nice as I would like. I have low res copies here. Most of them have a higher resolution available if you click on them, and I have the full uncropped versions if someone is interested. Look at my Photo Notes for technical information on the photos.
